Jon Courtenay—my lifelong friend and an extraordinary entertainer—rose to national fame as the winner of Britain’s Got Talent in 2020, during what was undeniably one of the most challenging years in recent history. With live audiences replaced by TV screens due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Jon’s performances brought warmth, humour, and heart to millions watching from home. His unique blend of music and comedy struck a chord with viewers and judges alike, and he became the only Golden Buzzer act personally chosen by Ant & Dec to go all the way and win the show.
Following his victory, Jon embarked on a UK national tour, bringing his signature style to theatres and venues across the country. I was honoured to be asked to join him on this journey—not just as a friend, but as his Tour Manager, Sound Engineer, and Lighting Technician. It was a privilege to support Jon behind the scenes, ensuring each performance was technically flawless and emotionally resonant.
From setting up lighting rigs and mixing live sound to coordinating logistics and managing stage cues, the tour was a true collaboration. It gave me the opportunity to apply my AV expertise in a live entertainment setting, while also sharing in the excitement of Jon’s well-deserved success.
Working with Jon during this tour was more than just a professional engagement—it was a celebration of resilience, creativity, and friendship. His journey from local performer to national treasure is one I’m proud to have been a part of, and it perfectly reflects the kind of passion and dedication we bring to every project at Soundcheck AVS.
